Where I Stand On The

Issues

Focused on the issues that matter to District 6

  • Building a Better Michigan for Everyone

Everyone in Michigan deserves the freedom to live their life with dignity, to be respected, and to be treated fairly. No matter your race, religion, gender, where you come from, how you identify, or whom you love, you should be able to participate fully in our communities and pursue your dreams without fear of discrimination or harassment. Increasingly, we are seeing renewed attacks on civil rights, personal freedoms, and vulnerable communities. Bigotry, antisemitism, Islamophobia, racism, and attacks on LGBTQ+ people have no place in our society and must be swiftly and decisively addressed and eliminated wherever found.

I got involved in public service because I believe democracy, personal freedom, and equal rights are worth fighting for, and we are all obligated to join that fight when those principles are under attack. In Lansing, I will work to ensure that every Michigander is treated fairly under the law and has the freedom to make their own decisions about their lives, families, and futures. That means standing up against discrimination wherever it occurs and ensuring government remains accountable to the people it serves. It means rejecting efforts to divide us and instead building a community where we look out for each other and every person feels welcome, valued, and safe.

  • Make Michigan an Affordable Place to Live

Michigan families deserve a government that understands the financial pressures they face every day and acts to relieve them. From housing and groceries to prescription drugs and utility bills, costs are rising faster than many families can keep up. Working families are doing everything right and still struggling. We need practical solutions that lower costs and help people build economic security.

I will work to expand affordable housing, lower prescription drug costs, protect access to health care, and make it easier for families to afford child care and higher education. The state can help lower these costs by investing funds in regular people rather than engaging in giveaways for wealthy corporations. Our state should be a place where young people can afford to stay, families can thrive, and seniors can retire with dignity. Making Michigan more affordable means making government work FOR everyday people.

  • Strengthen Public Education

Every child deserves access to a strong public education. Public schools are the heart of our communities, and we need to invest in students, teachers, and school infrastructure so every child has the opportunity to succeed. Michigan cannot build a strong future if we continue to underfund classrooms and place unnecessary burdens on educators.

I support fully funding public education, expanding access to early childhood education, supporting special education services, and ensuring teachers are respected and fairly compensated. I also believe schools should be safe, welcoming places where every student feels valued and supported. We need leaders who trust educators, support evidence-based learning, and focus on helping students thrive rather than turning schools into political battlegrounds.

  • Defend Democracy & Voting Rights

Our democracy only works when every eligible voter can make their voice heard and trust that their vote will count. I have spent years working to protect free and fair elections in Michigan because I believe voting is the foundation of all our rights. At a time when political extremism and misinformation are undermining public trust, we need leaders who will stand up for democracy and defend the integrity of our elections.

In Lansing, I will fight to protect voting rights, expand access to the ballot box, and ensure elections remain secure, transparent, and accessible to all voters. I support policies that make it easier for eligible citizens to vote, while also protecting election workers from harassment and intimidation. And for our democracy to work as it was designed to do, we have to get corporate money out of politics. Democracy depends on public trust, honest leadership, and respect for the rule of law, and I will never back down from defending those values.

  • Protect Our Environment and Great Lakes

Michigan’s natural resources are part of who we are. Our Great Lakes, parks, waterways, and public lands are essential to our economy, our health, and our quality of life. Protecting them is our responsibility to future generations. I will fight to protect clean air and clean water, hold polluters accountable, and support investments in renewable energy and climate resilience.

I believe protecting the environment and growing our economy can go hand in hand through clean energy jobs, sustainable infrastructure, and smart investments that strengthen communities across Michigan. We have the tools to transition away from fossil fuels, and Michigan should be a leader in clean energy production. We should be focusing our investments on building for the future we want to see, not on allowing billionaire investors to cram unregulated, environmentally destructive data centers into every corner of the state.

  • Strong Communities & Local Government

My eight years on the city commission taught me that local governments are where many of the decisions that affect people’s daily lives are made. Cities and towns need reliable state support to maintain infrastructure, provide public safety services, improve parks and public spaces, and respond to community needs. Too often, however, local governments are asked to do more with less.

I will fight for stronger partnerships between the state and local communities, including increased revenue sharing and investments in roads, water infrastructure, and public services. I believe government works best when leaders listen to residents, focus on solving problems, and make decisions based on what is best for the community. My local government experience gives me a practical understanding of how state policies impact communities on the ground, and I will bring that perspective to Lansing.

  • Affordable Housing

Housing costs are rising faster than wages, making it harder for families, working people, young professionals, and seniors to find safe and affordable places to live. Michigan needs practical solutions that help people stay in the communities they love while creating more housing opportunities for future generations.

I support expanding affordable housing options, investing in housing infrastructure, and working with local communities to encourage smart, sustainable development. We also need stronger support for first-time homebuyers, renters, and seniors on fixed incomes. Stable housing is the foundation for strong communities, economic growth, and family security, and state government should be a partner in helping people achieve it.

  • Reproductive Freedom

Decisions about reproductive health care belong to individuals and their doctors. Every person deserves the freedom to make deeply personal medical decisions without government interference. While Michigan voters took an important step by protecting reproductive freedom in our constitution, we know those rights will continue to face political attacks and cannot be taken for granted.

I will always defend access to reproductive health care, including abortion, contraception, fertility treatment, and maternal health care. I also believe we must address the broader challenges families face by improving access to affordable health care, paid leave, and prenatal and postpartum support. Protecting reproductive freedom means protecting people’s ability to make decisions about their own bodies, lives, and futures.

  • Health Care

Access to affordable, quality health care should not depend on your income, employer, or zip code. Too many Michigan families are struggling with high insurance costs, expensive prescription drugs, and barriers to getting the care they need. We need a health care system that puts people first and ensures everyone can access care when they need it.

I support protecting and expanding access to affordable health coverage, lowering prescription drug costs, and strengthening Medicaid. I also believe we must increase access to mental health care and address disparities in health outcomes across communities. Health care is not just an economic issue–it is about dignity, security, and quality of life for Michigan families.

  • Labor & Unions

Michigan was built by working people, and our economy is strongest when workers have the freedom to organize, bargain collectively, and earn fair wages. The people who create value through their labor deserve a meaningful voice in the workplace and a fair share of the prosperity they generate. We should be magnifying those voices, not silencing them.

I support protecting collective bargaining rights, expanding workplace protections, and ensuring workers receive fair pay and benefits for their labor. I will stand with workers fighting for safe working conditions, retirement security, and economic fairness. When workers succeed, families succeed, communities grow stronger, and Michigan’s economy becomes more resilient for everyone.
